The GOIW Society evolved from an international workshop on Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease (VKH) held on October 19-21, 1999, at Lake Arrowhead near Los Angeles. Since then, these workshops have covered sympathetic ophthalmia, ocular sarcoidosis, ocular tuberculosis, and Behcet's disease.
The goals of these workshops include advancing knowledge and clinical research in uveitis, promoting international collaborations, proposing internationally validated guidelines and improving treatment/prevention of these conditions.
Theme of the 2026 Workshop: "Emerging infections in uveitis: a template for future challenges".
Aim: To build a template for early identification of novel intraocular infections, with or without associated systemic disease. It will include global experts in uveitis as well as ocular microbiologists and epidemiologists.
